PhD in the context of the International Training Program ECMED (The extracellular matrix in epileptogenesis) - Italian Institute of Technology ; Center for Synaptic Neuroscience (Genoa, Italy. Supervisor: Prof, Fabio Benfenati.
Theme: Development of MEA-based in vitro and ex vivo models of epileptogenesis and seizures for primary drug screening.
Techniques: Multi-electrode array recordings on primary neuronal cultures, slice electrophysiology on acute brain slices by means of the CMOS-MEA system; patch clamp on primary and iPSC-derived neurons.
• October 2014; January – July 2015:
Internship - CIRB Collège de France ; Team “Dynamic and Pathophysiology of Neuronal Networks” (Paris, France)
Theme: Implication of the cortical inhibitory network in the mechanism of action of High Frequency Stimulation of the Subthalamic Nucleus.
Techniques: in vivo single-unit and multi-channel recordings with silicon probes on anesthetized mice, optogenetics, animal perfusion, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy and some confocal microscopy, data analysis (Klustakwik and MatLab).
• May-June 2014:
Internship - Laboratoire Neurosciences Paris-Seine ; Team “Neurophysiology and Behaviors” (Paris, France).
Theme: Characterization of the dopaminergic response to ethanol in the Ventral Tegmental Area, in case of pre-exposure to nicotine.
Techniques: in vivo extracellular single-unit recordings on anesthetized mice, intra-venous injections of drugs and pharmacological agents, immunohistochemistry.
• July – December 2012:
Internship - Laboratorio di Fisiologia, Università di Firenze (Sesto Fiorentino, Italy).
Theme: Chemo-mechanical coupling in muscular contraction, studied on skinned fibres from rabbit psoas muscle.
